Product of the week: Bottom Discharge Connection Fittings
As we’ve discussed, when a tank has a discharge opening below liquid level, this bottom outlet will normally require 3 points of closure. In the previous two Product-of-the-Week segments, we reviewed the first point of closure which is the Internal Valve and then the second point of closure is the External Valve.
The third point of closure on a bottom discharge assembly is typically a 3” BSP spigot flange with cap. BSP stands for British Standard Pipe thread, and this is the tank container industry standard. Click here for more information on BSP threaded connections and how BSP threads differ from our U.S. standard of NPT threads.
Naturally, the first thing that a number of our domestic customers want to do is replace the standard 3” BSP spigot flange with something else so that they can adapt to it in their plant. We offer a number of different options ranging from new connection flanges, to simple “spin-on” adapters that will screw onto the existing 3” BSP threads to give customers either a 3” NPT connection, a 2” NPT connection, or a 3” camlock connection.
Tank Service Inc. can also custom-fabricate any bottom discharge fitting you might need, if one of our off-the-shelf products won’t meet your requirements.
